There's no better topping for freshly baked bread, basic biscuits, scones or muffins than Easy Homemade Honey Butter. The creamy, lightly sweetened buttery spread is ready in 10 minutes. Serve on Classic Potato Rolls with big bowls of Pinto Bean Chili,
Remove one cup or two sticks of unsalted butter from the refrigerator. Set them on the counter at room temperature for at least an hour.
As an option, you can soften the butter gently in the microwave using the lowest power setting. Be careful not to melt the butter. You'll want it softened and easy to handle, but not liquidy.
Whip the Butter and Combine Ingredients
Place the softened butter in a medium-sized bowl and use a sturdy spoon or hand mixer to blend the butter and create a creamy, whipped texture.
Add the honey, cinnamon and salt and continue blending until all the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the butter.
Serve and Enjoy
The honey butter is now ready to enjoy! Spoon it into a small bowl and serve right away with fresh bread, biscuits, scones, bagels, English muffins, pancakes or waffles. You name it!
Create Honey Butter Gifts in a Jar
Another serving option is to place the honey butter in an 8-ounce jar. This is especially good if you plan to share honey butter as a gift.
Use a rubber spatula to scoop the honey butter from the mixing bowl and place it in a quart-sized plastic zip-top bag. Zip the top closed and use scissors to snip off one of the corners from the bottom of the plastic bag. Create an opening about one inch in size.
Point the trimmed, open corner of the plastic baggie into the clean, dry jar. Gently squeeze all of the honey butter from the baggie toward the open corner of the bag. This technique ensures that the honey butter fills the jar with very little mess.
After filling the jar use the rounded, backside of a spoon to push down on the top of the honey butter and help distribute it evenly throughout the jar.
After filling the jar you will likely have a few extra tablespoons of honey butter left over. Be sure to enjoy that extra overflow too!
Cover the jar, label and share it with friends and family.
Storing Honey Butter
Your homemade honey butter can be left at room temperature for 2 days, after that store it covered in the refrigerator and enjoy it within 2 weeks.
You can also freeze honey butter but use it within 2 months for the best quality and flavor.
Bring the honey butter to room temperature before serving.
Notes
Honey: Look for the word "pure" on the label, which ensures that there are no added ingredients like corn syrup.Butter: I like to use unsalted butter and control the amount of salt in the recipe by adding ¼ teaspoon. But it's fine to use salted butter. Just be sure to taste it to know if you might need to add a little more salt. Serve with Buttermilk French Toast for an incredible flavor combination.Like Homemade Brownie Mix, honey butter makes a great gift in a jar any time of year!
